How To Improve Self Esteem

We all have a crisis of confidence from time to time but there are lots of things we can do to help improve our self-esteem, so I’ve put together some top tips on how to improve self-esteem. I hope you can use a few of these tips to bring about a more confident, self-assured version of yourself.

Put Yourself First Sometimes

It’s hard to do this if you are looking after other people, have a busy job or even if you just struggle with time, but there comes a point when you need to put yourself first and say does this make me happy? If the answer is no, you should look to remove yourself from the situation.

Learn when to say no and to mean no. It okay to turn invitations down. It’s fine to ask your partner to take the kids to the park so you can have a relaxing bubble bath. It’s even fine to ask your employer to let you cut out early this once to do that thing you really want to do. It’s all give and take. If you are always giving, think about what’s that doing in the long run. Looking at how much you are putting yourself first, will really help when you are looking at how to improve self-esteem.

Surround Yourself With Positive People

When you are looking into how to improve your self-confidence, you need to make sure you are spending time with the right sort of people, with the right sort of attitude. If you are around happy people with positive attitudes, they’ll rub off on you. If you spend a lot of time with negative people, they will drain your good energy and vibes and bring you down with them.

Celebrate Your Skills

You are good at something, no matter how small that thing is, you have a skill or a talent and you should celebrate that. Make the thing you are good at part of your life and you will find that you enjoy your life a little more, plus it will give you that well-needed self-esteem boost.

Do Something For Someone Else

If you are struggling with your self-esteem, it might be a good idea to try and help someone else. You might start to realise that you have a lot to offer and that you aren’t quite as badly off as you think. Why not volunteer at the local food bank or do a few hours in a charity shop. Or you could organise a fundraiser at work. Even just being there for a friend who might be struggling will help you too. Cook some meals to put in their freezer. Drop round a bunch of flowers. Even meeting up with them for a coffee, can help both you and them.

Be Kind To Yourself

Another great tip on how to improve self-esteem is to cut yourself some slack and be kind to yourself. Think about the words and inner monologue you use towards yourself. Would you say this to a friend or loved one? No? Then you shouldn’t be saying it to yourself. You are a perfectly imperfect human and you should remember that. Your imperfections make you who you are. No need to be perfect and berate yourself when you are not. Set Yourself A Goal

It’s always a good idea when you are looking at how to improve self-esteem to look at setting a goal. If you are new to setting goals, start small. You could set yourself a fitness goal. I’m going to work out for 10 minutes a day. You could set yourself a skills goal – I’m going to learn to crochet or even it could be a goal to get out and about more – I’m going to go out once a week with a friend for a coffee and a chat. Whatever that goal is, you can work towards it. But remember, don’t make the goal unattainable otherwise it might demotivate you. Also, if you do fail to achieve your goal, remember it’s the effort that counts, not the final result. Be kind to yourself.

I hope these tips have helped you with a few ideas on how to improve your self-esteem. Do you have any other tips which you’d like to share?
